Or a business paying for their customer's order:
The full company name/trading address (in particular if the company is LTD) – so we can perform a check on the credit worthiness of the Ltd company. We may ask the person placing the order to sign a personal guarantee depending on what the credit report shows us.
If the business is in the building trade consumer payments will contact the builder to ask questions that will determine who pays the VAT to HMRC (Hammonds or the business). Whilst these checks are happening the order is held and so commission may be delayed.
What achieves a zero vat order?
1. The goods must be fitted during construction of the build/conversion.
2. A robe (fitted on its own in the room – any other furniture in the room renders it standard rated VAT) can only contain a single shelf running the full length of the wardrobe, hanging rail, closing door/s, any other internal or external panelling (such as fully lined robes or those with side/end/division/floor panels) means the whole robe is standard rated VAT. The robe must enclose a space bordered by the walls, ceiling and floor.
3. Freestanding furniture is standard rated, any fitted low units are standard rated.
4. The designer should always charge VAT and inform consumer payments if the customer is querying VAT – we can then look at it to determine if zero rating applies.
5. If the customer is disabled and believes no VAT is due the designer should charge VAT and inform consumer payments if the customer is querying VAT – we can then look at it to determine if zero rating applies.
When a VAT invoice is produced
We do not automatically produce VAT invoices so If an invoice is required the designer should note this in the sales presentation room specification box below ‘Surveyor/office Notes’ – payments will send the invoice.
How to request an invoice, including anything you may need the designer to include
See above - We cannot produce a VAT invoice to a business if the business is not the customer on our order form.
Where we are installing when the building is still a building site you need to liaise with your DSM to ensure the business is aware and the correct installer is allocated. The DSM will liaise with the ROM on your behalf.
